About the Author-

I recently met the author Amrut Deshmukh at a seminar. I generally don’t write a praise for any author because I haven’t met them yet but I met this guy and trust me, he was a great person. I won’t describe him. You can search for him yourself. His mission to Make India Read has my deep respect.

Though, I’d really really emphasize on 1 key thing that I learned from him and that is kindness and selflessness. I’d talk about him more at the end.

In one line-

In one line, the book is about how our approach should be towards reading. The 7 habits will help you implement them these approaches in your life.

Key notes-

Habit 1- Don’t Take Reading Seriously…

The author shares some very important points in this chapter. This perhaps will help 90% of people to at least pickup books.

He tries to normalize not completely reading a book and that it is the author’s responsibility to keep our attention. Reading isn’t a strict and rigid pursuit. Rather it is should be fun and helpful.

Habit 2- Fill in the time pockets…

If you have time to scroll on social media. You do have time to read a few pages.

There are several time pockets in our routine that we just waste. Rather than doing something unproductive. Pickup a book and start reading. This will compound overtime and you’ll see big results.

Habit 3- Read random…

Creativity and innovation happen by combining two or more random unassociated things.

Amrut insists us to not only read random genres but also read random across various platforms (blogs, newsletters etc). Since reading is important, the medium isn’t.

Habit 4- Get the big picture…

This again goes back to Habit 1. Perfection in reading is absolutely unnecessary. You should read fast. (I’d write a blog on speed reading soon).

He also shares the reasons and various questions you might have regarding speed reading.

Habit 5- Read and discuss… Habit 6- Read and pass it on

Both of these habits are successive that’s why its better we discuss together.

We forget about 50% of whatever we read after 10 minutes. By talking about books and ideas, we can make these concepts live forever in our head. Therefore, find a friend who reads and start talking.

(In our exclusive community Competence Bureau, we are also going to add a Book Club…)

Another important thing is to be selfless with books. Don’t hold them back. Share them. Because that will not only benefit others but also you. Who do you think they’ll discuss the book with after reading?

Habit 7- Mystery…

Summary-

The book is basically about how reading is different from studying. How can anyone become an active reader and genuinely change their lives for the better. The book is a part of a bigger mission to make India read. All in all, it is a simple to read guide for whoever wishes to inculcate a reading habit.

After you read this blog, don’t just scroll, read 3-4 pages and you’ll experience what healthy dopamine feels like.

Keep Growing.
